The National Book Council (NBC) has donated a large number of books to Malta Libraries, which it will in turn distribute to all public libraries in Malta and Gozo.

The donation includes a diverse range of genres, such as novels, short stories, poetry, drama, literary nonfiction, translations, research works, and books for children and young adults. Among the titles are winners and shortlisted works from the National Book Prize and Terramaxka Prize 2024, as well as other notable publications from Maltese publishers.

The books were formally presented by Mark Camilleri, Executive Chairperson of the NBC, to Doreen Borg Zammit, Deputy National Librarian.

This initiative reflects the NBCโ€™s ongoing commitment to promoting Maltese literature.

The Council donates books to Malta Libraries twice a year: in April to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day and National Library Day, and again at the end of the year.

These donations ensure that public libraries are equipped with the latest publications from Maltese publishers and help keep the Public Lending Rights (PLR) scheme up to date, ensuring that copyright holders receive payments for the most recently added books.
