Home / News / Book Festival on Campus opens this Wednesday Back to News Book Festival on Campus opens this Wednesday Campus Book Festival • Festivals • News 20th March, 2018 The Book Festival on Campus kicks off this Wednesday at 9:00 am at the University quadrangle. It will be running for three days with back-to-back activities from 9am until 4 pm on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, the last day of the Festival, activities will go on till late, ending with a concert by local garage bands Cryptic Street and Fuzzhoneys. The programme, which can be downloaded from the NBC website from this link, includes activities such as readings, book launches, talks by experts on variety of academic topics, presentations and interviews with local authors and artists. Jasmin B. Frelih, an author from Slovenia and a winner of the European Union Prize for Literature, is the special guest of this edition of the Festival – he will be leading a workshop on creative writing on Wednesday and will be taking part in activities during the three days of the Festival. The Festival is set up by Għaqda tal-Malti – Università and the National Book Council with the intention of providing a platform for publishers and student organisations to promote their products and also to contribute to the programme with cultural activities. The publishers participating in the Festival this year are: Faraxa, Horizons, Midsea Books, EDE Books, Pjattaforma, SKS and BDL. Student organisations have also made their contribution, in particular HoASA, the History of Art and Fine Arts Students’ Association, and DESA, the Department of English Students’ Association. Other participants include the University Library, the Department of Maltese within G.F. Abela Junior College, Inizjamed and the Department of Maltese at Malta University. Although the Festival is set up with the aim of reaching out to a mature audience such as university students, all members of the public are invited to attend and take part in the activities.
