The National Book Council will be announcing a new collaboration with the Commonwealth Foundation through which Maltese writers will have the opportunity to participate in the Commonwealth Short Story Prize competition with short stories written in both Maltese and English. To inaugurate this collaboration, we will be welcoming Constantia Soteriou, the Cypriot writer whose short story ‘Death Customs’ won the 2019 edition of the Prize.
Constantia Soteriou is a writer and playwright born in Nicosia in 1975. Her first novel Aishe Goes on Vacation (Patakis, 2015) won the Athens Prize for Literature. She is also the author of Voices Made of Soil (Patakis, 2017), which was shortlisted for the Cyprus Literature awards, and Bitter Country (Patakis, 2020), which won the National Book Award of Cyprus and was shortlisted for the European Union Prize for Literature. On this occasion, Soteriou will be interviewed by Elena Cardona.
