This discussion serves as an introduction to the research portal of the Department of Maltese at the University of Malta – malti.mt. Sephora Francalanza interviews Michael Spagnol whilst demonstrating different part of the portal, consisting of resources related to dialects, oral tradition, grammar, terminology and historical linguistics. Viewers will also learn how to access research carried out and/or published by the lecturers and students within the Department.

Sephora Francalanza graduated in Maltese and in Translation. She is the Public Relations Officer for Għaqda tal-Malti – Università and currently works as a journalist.

Michael Spagnol studied Maltese and Linguistics at the University of Malta, completed his PhD in Linguistics at the University of Konstanz, Germany, and did a postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology ta’ Leipzig, Germany. His fields of specialisation are morphology, lexicography and dialectology. He works on a number of research projects on terminology, dialects, and oral traditions. He is currently Head of the Department of Maltese (2019-).
