The donation includes books for children, adolescents and adults comprising some of the best titles available in Malta, amongst which are shortlisted titles for the National Book Prize 2019 and other publications pertaining to special guests during various festivals organised by the NBC. Original and translated novels for young and adults, poetry, original and translated books for children, works of an academic, historiographic, biographic and general research are some of the genres that make up this donation. All the books are in Maltese and English, but also in other languages such as French, Italian and German. Every year the NBC gives a significant amount of books to Malta Libraries, which are then distributed to all public libraries in Malta and Gozo. The Council’s aim is thus to promote a culture of more reading and hence reflection and critical thinking. The donation was presented to Margaret Zammit from Malta Libraries, who’s the National Deputy Librarian, by Simona Cassano, Senior Manager at the NBC. More donations are in place for 2020.
