The National Book Council is proud to be supporting The Child and The Book Conference taking place on 26-28 May 2022 at the University of Malta, Valletta Campus and organised by the Department of English.

Now in its 15th edition, The Child and the Book conference was launched at Roehampton University, England, in 2004 and has since taken place in a host of different countries. The conference gathers children’s and young adult literature scholars and students who exchange research, knowledge and experience in this interdisciplinary fields and also is open to publishers, writers and interested stakeholders.

The upcoming edition in Malta is titled ‘The Role of the Child as Citizen: Constructing Childhood through Agency and Activism’, exploring the social and cultural opportunities as well as the difficulties that children face in the current climate, and the role that children’s representation, literature and the book play in nurturing children’s sense of citizenship, agency and belonging. Besides the core programme, featuring the participation of award-winning author of children’s literature and young adult works Leanne Ellul, the conference will be inviting participants to a cultural programme.

As a collaborating partner the National Book Council is making a limited number of in-person and online places available to its stakeholders, including writers, illustrators and publishers.
