After his mother’s death, Omar N’Shea discovers a file full of letters, seemingly left behind for him to find. Through these letters sent from Libya, Omar begins to piece together the story of his mother and Otman. In doing so, he starts to understand his family’s behavior and the meaning behind some of his memories. As he fills in the gaps about himself, his relatives, and their true identities, Omar also begins to address the silences in our collective historical memory. The events recounted in Es Sidr date back to the 70s, a time when Libya, a country so near to us, suddenly felt closer than ever.
