Join us for a special literary event featuring acclaimed German author Iris Wolff, who will read from her celebrated novel Lichtungen (Klett-Cotta), dealing with questions of friendship, migration, loss and belonging. The novel was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in 2024 and appeared in Maltese translation in 2025 (Horizons). The event will feature readings in German by Iris Wolff and in Maltese by the novel’s translator Alfred Scalpello, as well as a conversation in English, moderated by Dr Katrin Dautel (Department of German, University of Malta). The author and translator will discuss the novel’s themes, writing process and questions of literary translation. 

This event is co-organised by the Department of German, University of Malta, the German-Maltese Circle and Horizons, with the generous support of the German Embassy in Malta. 

The evening will conclude with a book signing session with the author and the translator; the novel will be available for purchase in German and Maltese.
