In this new book, Caroline Tonna, published with FPM, discusses fashion in Malta as seen through the lense of Leandro Preziosi. Preziosi, a highly competent pioneer camera artist, was for fashion in Malta in the nineteenth century what Antoine Favray was for it in the eighteenth – without the benefit of colour. He recorded with loving precision what was indigenous in clothing, and what was cosmopolitan. His full-figure portraits immortalised the clothes of the sitters as an integral part of their persona.
