The National Book Council (NBC) is publishing its comprehensive Annual Report for the year 2022.

In its mission to bring Maltese literature, authors, illustrators and their publishers to a wider public across different media, in 2022 the NBC continued to invest in a number of promotional campaigns and audiovisual productions; collaborated with a number of entities and organisations throughout the year on artistic, social, academic and commercial initiatives; organised for the first time a joint award-giving ceremony for National Book Prize for adults and the Terramaxka Prize for children and adults, which drew a record number of 199 eligible submitted titles; and increased the reach of the Malta Book Fund with the introduction of two new categories โ€“ the translation of book excerpts to be used as a pitch for publication, and the publication of new editions of out-of-print works in Maltese literature. The Malta Book Festival, which remains the foremost book celebration in the countryโ€™s cultural calendar, saw the participation of a record 50 exhibitors, and the NBC will work towards increasing the Festivalโ€™s reach with new collaborations and initiatives.

The NBC remains committed to invest all resources towards the growth of the Maltese publishing industry through the professionalisation of all its actors and the continuous efforts in literary exports. A thank you is in order to all who collaborated with the NBC in 2022 and worked hard in support of the publishing industry in Malta despite the many challenges.

Key dates concerning the NBCโ€™s funds, contests and initiatives in 2023 will be released next week.
