Today, the National Book Council (NBC) donated a substantial amount of books to Malta Libraries in celebration of World Book and Copyright Day.

This is one of two sizeable donations to Malta Libraries that the NBC commits to every year in order to ensure that public libraries across Malta and Gozo are stocked with the best Maltese publications as well as local new releases.

The NBC’s Executive Director, Simona Cassano, presented a number of books for both adults and youths ranging from fiction to nonfiction and academic books, as well as children’s literature. The books donated include winners and finalists of the 2023 National Book Prize and Terramaxka Prize.

Deputy Librarian Doreen Borg Zammit collected the books on behalf of Malta Libraries.

To honour World Book and Copyright Day, the NBC is proud to share the first episode of the video series ‘How a Book is Made’, produced in collaboration with Lovin Malta. In this episode, Franco Portelli from Gutenberg Press, Glen Calleja from Kotba Calleja, and Chris Gruppetta from Merlin Publishers discuss the process of book production and the book as a product from both an industrial and an artisanal perspective.

Stay tuned for the next two episodes, which will be released shortly!
