Home / News / Online launch of ‘Call the Sea a Poet: Focus on Malta’ Back to News Online launch of ‘Call the Sea a Poet: Focus on Malta’ Initiatives • Literary Contests • Literary Exports • News 8th August, 2023 A collaboration between the National Book Council (NBC) and Modern Poetry in Translation (MPT), a leading literary magazine that brings together brings the best new poetry, essays and reviews from around the world, has resulted in a special new edition focusing on Malta. Following the strong response to the call for submissions, published earlier this year, for Maltese poems translated into English, MPT will be holding an online launch event on Tuesday, 15 August at 2pm, for their latest issue titled Call the Sea A Poet: Focus on Malta. This issue will feature poems by established poets such as Antoine Cassar, Nadia Mifsud and Immanuel Mifsud, as well as younger ones such as Jasmine Bajada and Karina Fiorini. The volume features translations by names such as Albert Gatt, Irene Mangion and Alfred Palma. Adrian Grima he also contributed with an essay on languages. The launch will be led by the MPT editor Khairani Barokka who will be joined for a discussion and a number of readings from the same issue by the poets Maria Grech Ganado and Priscilla Cassar. Maria Grech Ganado translates from Maltese into English. Her poetry has been translated into 14 languages and has won four National Book Prizes. In 2005, she co-organised an international seminar in Malta. Priscila Cassar is a therapist, geragogist and a poet, interested in arts-in-health. Her poetry, prose and translations have been published in a number of anthologies and projects, locally, online, as well as abroad. She continues working on her first collection of poems. The launch will be held on Zoom and the general public is invited to join. The discussion will be in English and interpretation through British Sign Language will be made available. While admission is free or against a voluntary donation, spaces should be reserved by following this link.
