Stejjer li Qatt ma Qrawlek – Teatru Malta 🇲🇹

Eight Maltese stories, reimagined through voice and sound.

‘Stejjer li Qatt ma Qrawlek’ is an initiative by Teatru Malta, under the umbrella of Teatru Redifjuxxin, developed in collaboration with the National Book Council. The project selects eight short stories by Maltese authors and gives them new life through the voices and performances of the Teatru Malta ensemble.

The final selection includes works by Kurt Borg, Clare Azzopardi, Immanuel Mifsud, Leanne Ellul, Nadia Mifsud, Lara Calleja, Loranne Vella and Keith Borg. Although the stories come from different authors and collections, a common theme emerges from the selection: our fundamental need to build meaningful connections with others. ‘Stejjer li Qatt ma Qrawlek’ explores intimacy and its capacity to fulfil us, shape us and hurt us, while asking what happens when the desire for intimacy takes an unpleasant turn. Stejjer li Qatt ma Qrawlek therefore creates a bridge between literature and theatre, offering a new way for Maltese stories to be heard, interpreted and experienced — through voice, sound and imagination.

The stories will be recorded by Albert Garzia, who will work closely with the ensemble to ensure that each text finds its particular voice, rhythm and atmosphere. Garzia will also create original music specifically for the podcasts, bringing the stories together and giving the collection a shared audio identity. James Baldacchino will be responsible for mastering the recordings before they are made available to listeners across various platforms.
