Festivals • Initiatives • News 23rd September, 2016 The National Book Council would like to invite all schools in Malta and Gozo to attend the Malta Book Festival 2016 which will be held from Wednesday 9th till Sunday 13th November 2016 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) Valletta. The Malta Book Festival is the most prestigious event related to books in the Maltese educational and cultural calender. During the event, publishers and bookshops gather under one roof to showcase all of their latest publications. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings of the Festival are dedicated to students from across Malta and Gozo who are invited to attend the Festival with their respective schools and participate in the educational programme of events prepared for them. This time round the NBC is encouraging teachers to co-ordinate with their students so that everyone who attends the Festival wears a costume/accessories inspired by literary characters, themes or stories. These costumes/accessories may be created from recycled paper during class activities and/or with the art teachers with the aim of encouraging students to delve deeper in the magical world of books and literature that the Festival celebrates. Said accessories (be it a tie, a hat, a t-shirt etc) and/or costumes may also be created at home. Full costumes are also encouraged so long as they represent literary characters. Bookings must be addressed to Maria Muscat on maria.e.muscat@gov.mt from the 1st till the 20th October 2016. Attendance for the activity in Temi Zammit Hall will be booked on a first come first served basis. Every booking must specify the following: *Name of college, Name of school *Day (Wednesday, Thursday or Friday) *Year Group (Yr 1 – Yr 11) or equivalent *Amount of students *Name, e-mail and mobile number of teacher in charge of the visit (this person will act as the main contact person. He/She will receive the programme for the day and be in charge of informing the Festival team members/photographers about the data protection status of the students under his/her care) *Any other important remarks Transport should be organised in such a way so as to ensure that students make it to MCC by 9:00/9:15am and do not leave prior to 12:30pm unless an alternative arrangement is discussed. Once again for MBF2016, NBC will be giving a €3 voucher to every student attending the Festival with their respective school on weekday mornings. These vouchers can only be redeemed during the school visit. See you all there and don’t forget to spread the word!
