Loranne Vella, Joe Gatt (eds)

Loranne Vella is the author of the novels Travi taċ-Ċedru Saqaf taċ-Ċipress, Marta Marta, Rokit u Magna Mater, the novella dawn l‐erbat ikmamar l’għandi, and the collection of short stories mill-bieb ’il ġewwa. She is also co‐author of the Fiddien trilogy. She has won the National Book Prize several times, including for Marta Marta in 2023 and Rokit in 2018. In 2022 she translated Bertolt Brecht’s Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder for Teatru Malta. In 2014 and 2015 she won the Terramaxka National Book Prize for the translation of children’s books. Loranne Vella is co‐editor of Aphroconfuso.

Joe Gatt is a writer, translator and editor. He has worked in London in editorial roles with Vogue, The Modern Review, and for five years was the editor of GSpot Magazine. He has written for several publications, including The Face, Dazed & Confused and The Guardian. More recently, his stories have been published in Scintillas: New Maltese Writing 1 (Praspar Press 2021) and The London Magazine. His translation of Glorianne Micallef’s “Sottomissjoni” appeared in Asymptote, and You Know the Sun Bothers Me, his translation of SAJF by Ryan Falzon, was published by Foundry Editions in the UK. The translation was the winner of an English PEN Translates Award. Joe Gatt is co-editor of Aphroconfuso.
