The National Book Council (NBC) is pleased to announce that its Five-Year Strategic Vision (2025-2030) is now open for public consultation. Outlining a crucial roadmap for the future of the book industry in Malta, the strategy will be open for consultation from 28 April to 19 May 2025.

The document can be accessed here. The consultation document is available in English – following the consultation process, a bilingual version of the Strategy will be made available to the public.

Developed in collaboration with the internationally reputable consultancy firm KPMG, the proposed strategy outlines five key strategic pillars aimed at strengthening the local literary ecosystem, promoting the Maltese language and culture, expanding access and engagement, enhancing governance and transparency, and increasing international visibility.

The result of in-depth research and stakeholder consultations, the strategy presents a forward-looking vision to support the sustainability, professionalisation, and global reach of the Maltese book industry.

“From the outset, the Strategy was devised with the aim of outlining concrete measures that would lead to tangible benefits for all stakeholders of the book industry in Malta,” National Book Council Chairman Mark Camilleri said. “The result is a document which pinpoints actionable targets which are both forward-thinking and realistic, based on comprehensive research and outreach,” Camilleri added, urging all stakeholders and the general public to have their say on the strategy during the consultation process.

“The Maltese literary ecosystem is just that — a living, breathing community that cannot exist in a vacuum. For this reason, it is crucial for all stakeholders, as well as the general public, to contribute to the consultation process to ensure that our Strategy reflects the richness and diversity of this crucial strand of Maltese culture,” Camilleri said.

The National Book Council’s Five-Year Vision (2025-2030) including a Vision, Mission and Values Statement for the Malta Book Centre and its public consultation document can be found here. The consultation period will close on 19 May 2025.
