Jon Mallia and Rachelle Deguara are the protagonists of a jaunty and brazen video interview on the benefits of reading and their favourite books. To mark these important dates, the National Book Council has gathered a record amount of books to be donated to Malta Libraries, including original and translated literature for adults and young adults; poetry and books for children; and academic publications. The books are a selection of the finest titles from several Maltese publishing houses, including the winners of the National Book Prize 2019, and will be hitting public library shelves around Malta and Gozo in the coming weeks. As soon as the restrictive measures are slowly lifted and public libraries reopen their doors, they will be available for the public to enjoy. The National Book Council plays an essential role in Malta’s book industry, with an aim to encourage a culture of reading among people, especially the younger ones. The National Book Council holds firmly to the belief that more informed and frequent use of local bookshops and public libraries by members of the public will benefit society in many ways. More book donations to Malta Libraries, schools and various organizations are planned for various occasions this year. Happy World Book And Copyright Day! Stay safe, #stayathome and #readabook.
