She is presently the senior editor at Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, a freelance tourist guide, and writer. JOAN ABELA is a senior lecturer at the University of Malta. She read History at the University of Malta and proceeded to read for a Ph.D. in Maritime History at the University of Exeter. Abela is a founding member and President of the Notarial Archives Foundation, and a member of the National Archives Board and of the Management Board of the Mdina Cathedral Archives. She currently holds the post of Director of Operations at the Notarial Registers Archive.
