Notwithstanding the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 was marked by the successful return of an in-person Malta Book Festival, once again an integral part of the Maltese cultural calendar. Held at a new and larger venue, the result was a huge and much-needed economic boost for booksellers and publishers alike. 2021 also presented new milestones in the publication of Maltese literature in translation, and continued progress on the restoration of the Council’s premises on Old Mint Street, Valletta, which in a few years’ time will host Malta’s national book centre. The NBC would like to thank everyone who in 2021 worked hard in support of publishing in Malta despite the many challenges – we remain committed to invest all our resources towards its growth. Key dates concerning the NBC’s funds, contests and initiatives in 2022 have been published here. The Annual Report for 2021 in English can be accessed here, and the mobile version here.
